The Caffè Florian was founded in 1720 and opened as 'Alla Venezia Trionfante'. From the very beginning, this elegant building was characterised by its exclusive products and the people who frequented it: noblemen, politicians, intellectuals and womanizers, the protagonists of their times, such as Carlo Goldoni or Giacomo Casanova and, more recently, Gabriele d'Annunzio, met here.

Today, the Caffè Florian still retains the charm of the eras it lived in. With its architecture, the result of restorations and renovations, its rooms richly decorated in different styles (the most famous are the Senate Room, the Chinese Room and the Oriental Room, the Illustrious Men Room), and its 19th-century interiors, the café is an important cultural centre where exhibitions, meetings and installations are organised (it was here, at the end of the 19th century, that the intuition came to create what would later become the Venice Biennale). However, it is also an ideal place for tourists who simply want to enjoy an espresso coffee sitting at a table: in the heart of Venice, a stone's throw from the Grand Canal.
